Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is by far the best professional certificate in Kenya. In addition, we strongly believe that it’s better than MBA.
CFA and MBA are two courses in the business field, and are preferred by people who want to secure senior positions in our institutions, but over time, CFA has become too strong for MBA, prompting employers to prefer CFA holders to MBA holders. It is unfortunate that most Kenyans, even the sharp ones, end up pursuing MBA because it promises even, where in the real sense it delivers hell.MBA by all standards is inferior to CFA, and it’s because of these facts:
Kenya’s higher education system has been diluted by the introduction of parallel program. Today, we don’t have quality education but rather quantity education. We have universities motivated by money, more money you have the higher the chances of pursuing a better course. From diploma to PhD level, education has totally gone to dogs. As the crisis continues, MBA continue to suffer most; this is because MBA is the most popular course in Kenya, it attracts over 4,000 new students annually. In a class, you will find a single lecturer teaching 700 students, and you wonder whether he will offer quality education.
What shocks me most is that most MBA graduates don’t have basic managerial, which should be their basic goal-this is due to the poor quality of education in our universities. It is also surprising that even a project/thesis which is supposed to provide necessary practical skills to the students is not done by students themselves. These services are outsourced, where the student is provided with a complete thesis by analysts and then presents it to the supervisors.
Where CFA beats MBA is the fact that the course attracts only the best, something which can excite those who seek to get quality education. Any graduate who pursues CFA is assured of employment in Kenya. Statistics show that at least 98 % of CFA holders in Kenya are employed and they actually earn modest salaries. If you compare CFA with MBA in terms of employment and salaries, you won’t even dare advise a student to pursue MBA:the average salary of MBA holder in Kenya is Ksh 135,000 while CFA holder earns starting salary of Ksh 300,000.In terms of employment,MBA holders have 50:50 chances of securing employment.
CFA is rated highly by employers because it provides the best knowledge to students.Employers know what students go through before they are awarded the most prestigious certificate. They(employers) are also aware than MBA earned fro Kenyan universities is useless. They always recommend that students enroll for the course at UK,USA,Canada,Australia and South African universities, where quality of education tops the universities’ goals.
