Former speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende has officially joined New United Democratic party from ODM.
The new party was founded by former housing minister Soita Shitanda and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
Marende, who was recently appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Chairman of Kenya Power told the Luhya community to leave CORD and Join Jubilee administration. He argued that ODM has nothing to offer his people except empty promises.
“ODM will not form the next Government, the earlier we join Jubilee the better. Even if the Luhya don’t get the presidency, we will be assured of something good from the government”, he said
The former speaker used the platform to urge Bony Khalwale and other leaders who accompanied him to leave Raila alone and join other Luhya leaders for a better future.
Marende was in 2013 beaten by Justin Muturi for the National Assembly Speaker position despite getting full support from CORD.
