More than 300 members of the elite Recce squad have resigned over poor pay and mistreatment from their seniors.
Recce squad is an institution within the General Service Unit (GSU), which is the most respected force in the country due to their advanced skills in dealing with terrorists.
The officers earn as little as Ksh 25, 000 per month, which is not commensurate with the duties they perform. Those who have resigned cited salary as the major reason why they decided to down their tools.
The officers also complained that they are ordered to guard places like UN, US Embassy and other major buildings within the city but their salaries are not something to smile about.
Currently, the Police force has no union which can argue their cases with the government, the only option for them is to resign and seek greener pastures elsewhere.
