Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has indicated she will contest for Nairobi Governor Seat in 2017.
Speaking on Wednesday after meeting over 200 women groups drawn from Nairobi County, Waiguru revealed she might challenge Evans Kidero in 2017.
However, her dreams might be shattered if Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko declares interest in the seat.
Sonko has a huge following in Nairobi and has contributed significantly in promoting Jubilee Party, and always stood with President Uhuru Kenyatta even when everyone deserted him.Sonko will definitely take the Jubilee Party ticket, leaving Waiguru without a party.
Analysts say former Devolution Cabinet Secretary’s only positive contribution to Jubilee was to come up with Huduma Centres. She however managed to taint Uhuru’s image through the infamous NYS saga.
Many residents of Nairobi, especially Jubilee supporters, will be reluctant in supporting Waiguru’s candidature if Sonko will be in the race.
Another thing that will complicate the matter is the entry of Dagoretti Member of Parliament Dennis Waweru into the race.
Waweru has worked tirelessly in defending Uhuru’s government. He is also expected to fight for Jubilee Party ticket with Mr.Sonko.
Since CORD’s supporters are intact, Jubilee is likely to lose the seat again, given that their votes might be divided among candidates of Jubilee affiliated parties.
