Atwoli Re elected COTU Secretary General

COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has been re elected COTU boss at a delegates’ conference held in Kisumu on May 21, 2016.

Atwoli, who has served as COTU Secretary General for 14 years, was elected unopposed alongside 32 other officials.

Upon being elected as the new boss, Atwoli requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to deal with corruption, which has crippled the economy. He also vowed to continue working tirelessly for Kenyan workers.

The trade unionist was first elected to the hot seat in 2002 after working for several years as a member of the Agriculture and Plantation Workers Union in Kenya. He has been vocal especially on issues regarding workers rights and governance.

At one time he had the ambitions of vying for a political seat but his fat paycheck did not give him the freedom to join politics. It is believed that the outspoken trade unionist earns more than sh 7 million per month since he represents the union in many boards. Among the boards he sits include National social security Fund, International Labour Organization among others.
