Robert Kathata has 31 children and 17 wives but his appetite for women does not end there. The 36-year-old Meru man says he is happy his father requested him to follow his footsteps by marrying more wives to build the nation.

Kathata married his first wife, Grace Kawira, at the age of 18 in 1997 and has since accumulated more to clock 17.The wife claims as long as she is happy she won’t prevent Kathata from marring more wife.

“Our culture allows for polygamy – and I have inherited the tradition from my father. I am proud to manage many wives and make sure all my children go to school. I am a living testimony that a man can keep many wives peacefully,”says the 36-year-old.

What is more surprising is that the “Meru king” has built each wife a nice permanent house and put their children in good schools-no one is complaining.

Mr Kathata has a timetable which allows him visit each wife twice a month to meet his conjugal rights. He is also able to hold a baraza each week to discuss problems affecting them and ensure there is peace in the big homestead.

His goal is to have more than 30 wives and at least 150 children.
