Former heavyweight boxing champion, Mohammed Ali,is ย dead, according to his doctors.
The boxer, 74, was rushed to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday to be treated for a respiratory issue. A family member explains that the boxer is now on a life support machine but other sources say he is dead.
Early reports indicated that Ali had passed on, but doctors at the hospital confirmed he is not dead.However, they stressed that he is in critical condition and itโs a matter of time before he is dead.
A family member also added:
“It’s extraordinarily grave. It’s a matter of hoursโ.
Ali is generally considered among the greatestย heavyweightsย in the history of the boxing sport.
Originally known as Cassius Clay,he began training at 12 years old and at the age of 22 won theย world heavyweight championshipย in 1964 fromย Sonny Listonย inย a stunning upset. Shortly after that bout, Ali joined theย Nation of Islamย and changed his name. He converted toย Sunni Islamย in 1975, and 30 years later began adhering toย Sufism.
Ali remains the only three-timeย linealย world heavyweight champion; he won the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978. Between February 25, 1964 and September 19, 1964 Muhammad Ali reigned as theย undisputed heavyweight boxing champion.
