End of the road for the Kalenjin and Kikuyu nations as, Zuleikha Juma, a Member of Parliament proposes in a bill that neither of the two tribes should be allowed to contest for presidency in future.
Juma says we have had enough of the two tribes, and it’s time to make the seat rotational so that every tribe, including the small ones, can feel the sweetness.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislature argues that rotational presidency will end tribal animosity and bring cohesion among all the 43 tribes in Kenya. She adds that since independence Kenya has only experienced leadership at presidency level from two tribes, Kalenjin and Kikuyu, and due to tyranny of numbers, it’s hard for small tribes to make it to such level.
If the bill passes through parliament, then the two tribes should wait until 2050 when they will be allowed to present their candidate.
As it stands,Uhuru and Ruto may lead the country till 2032.
