Almost all insurance companies in Kenya employ sales persons to market their products and policies. This is the most demanding and stressful job you can do if you aren’t prepared for a real challenge. It becomes even harder because most insurance companies don’t pay salaries-they actually pay on commission basis.

Insurance sales job is the easiest career to get in Kenya but the hardest for people who lack skills to market products. When every individual starts selling policies, it often becomes very hard to survive the environment because you are paid nothing yet you are required to work on daily basis.

But one thing I have noted, the more you get the clients the easier it becomes to stay in that insurance company. Unlike other sectors where your salary remains constant for a while, the more you sell insurance products the more you earn. I have interviewed many individuals working as financial advisors (Sales executives) and have reached a point where they earn up to Ksh 600,000 per month.

What is required in this job is to gather courage to face rude customers. At first they will scare you but if you explain to them exhaustively about the products some of them might take the policies.

In short, most insurance companies don’t pay sales executives’ salaries, but they pay them attractive commissions.
