When it comes to salaries and investments, surviving with a monthly salary of Ksh 10,000,20,000,30,000,40,000 in Kenya is hectic, it requires an individual with financial discipline.

Experts will tell you that if you are earning Ksh 40,000 in Nairobi you should live in either a single room, bedsitter or a one bedroom-at least in a house where you pay rent of not more than Ksh 10,000.If you do that, you are able to save at least Ksh 10,000.

Many people find themselves in a trap the moment they start paying rent that amounts to more than half their salaries. This mostly occur in Nairobi and Mombasa where rental prices are high.

The first thing to do in order to survive with a small salary is to cut your ego and live in a neighborhood that suits your class. There is no point of living in a rental house where you pay Ksh15, 000 a month when you are earning Ksh 40,000.What is making most Kenyans poor especially employees is ego-they don’t want to be seen walking from Kibera when everybody at home knows they are working, they also want their friends to know they are people of class.

When you find yourself earning Ksh 30, 000, prepare yourself to live in a house whose rent not more than Ksh 7, 000, avoid buying a car and reduce your girlfriends to one. This will make you comfortable and you will survive with your salary.

Individuals who earn less than Ksh 20,000 are the most squeezed. With this salary, even having a girlfriend is hard. If you are not living in your own house please for God’s sake live in house where rent does not exceed Ksh 4,500.If you try to live in a Sh 10,000 rental house you will be broke by date 4 every month. With this salary, you don’t need a girlfriend but a woman who understands you and capable of supplementing your income.

Those earning Ksh 10,000 in Kenya should look for one or two friends and jointly rent a room. This salary is clearly less than pocket money for students. You will save nothing if your salary is Ksh 10k but if you live in a single room with a friend then saving even Ksh 3,000 is possible.
