Toyota cars are so far the most popular cars in Kenya-for every 3 cars on the road one is a Toyota. Though many Kenyans love buying the cars from Japan they argue that they are overpriced.
The most obvious reason is that there is a scramble for cheap used Toyota cars in Kenya. Once there is a scramble for anything, the supplier will fix the price as he wishes-that’’s what manufacturers as well as motor vehicle companies are doing. Kenyans love Toyota cars, and they will pay any price to own one.
Another reason is the price charged by KRA while importing the cars. You can import the car at Ksh 200,000 but due to taxation the car finally costs more than Ksh 300,000.
Another reason is because the spare parts are easily available and also cheap, making everyone to prefer Toyota cars. This fact makes car bazaar companies as well as importers aware that the car buyers are desperate for Toyota cars. They, therefore, adjust prices upwards whenever there is influx of buyers.
Generally Toyota cars are not as expensive as other brands.
