It seems Professor Makau Mutua is not leaving any stone unturned after he confidently applied for the position of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya.
The SUNY Professor made the application for the position this week accompanied with a 100 page CV, which is too fat to be ignored.
Mutua, who is President Uhuru’s fierce critic ,will be competing with former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende as well as Supreme Court Judge Dr Smokin Wanjala.Others in the list include Court of Appeal Judges David Maranga and Alnashir Vishram as well as High Court judges Msagah Mbogholi and Judge Richard Mwongo.
Mutua’s closest challenger is former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende, who many people believe will make Solomonic decisions when it comes to landmark rulings. It is also believed that the Jubilee administration prefers Marende while CORD prefers Professor Mutua.
The extension of submission deadline will further complicate matters as several prominent names are expected to submit their applications. One of the names expected to sneak in is that of Githu Muigai, who is the current Attorney General, while Supreme Court Judge, Njoki Ndungu, is also expected to submit her application.
Despite the long list of names the race will narrow down to Professor Makau Mutua and Kenneth Marende, and if the Judicial Service Commission submits two names to the President, Marende will be the next Chief Justice.
