Samuel Nlend’s football career came to abrupt end after testing positive for HIV. Consequently, he was chased by club Ittihad of Egypt.
The striker joined the club early this month and had gone for medical, but the result was devastating. Waiting patiently for the outcome, the team Doctor came. “you are HIV positive”, he said.
The information hit the player like a truck. For 10 minutes, he was speechless as he shook his head in disbelief while the doctor explained the consequences of the medical result.
The club had early announced the signing of the 21-year-old, but the result meant that he failed his medical test. The player’s contract was terminated, prompting him to return to his home country, Cameroon.
In a football game, medical test is very important. Clubs don’t want to incur expenses of meeting medical bills arising from chronic diseases. They better not have you than spend dollars in treating you.
