Prof Laban Ayiro has been sworn in as new Vice Chancellor for Moi University at a ceremony held on Wednesday at the institution.
Ayiro, who is a Luhya, will serve as Vice Chancellor for the institution for three months upon which he will be confirmed.
This follows a demonstration which was staged at Eldoret on Tuesday following the news that a “Luo” was to assume the position of VC, but the noise did not get into tough talking Dr Matiangi’s ears. The Minister has stated that he followed the law in appointing the new Vice Chancellor and warned the leaders of unspecified consequences if they follow the dangerous route.
While accepting his appointment, Ayiro said:
“I accept this huge responsibility of acting VC. I need your support to carry out the responsibilities from where Mibey left,”
“I will do what I can until the new VC comes to office,”
The Vice Chancellor will now preside over graduation ceremony at the institution which is slated on Friday this week. During the ceremony, the government will provide maximum security to prevent tribalists from invading the venue.
Before his appointment, Prof Ayiro was in the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of planning.
