Believe it or not,the current president of Gambia,Adama Barrow ,was at one time a security guard,the lowest rank in an organization. This is the same man who beat Yahya Jammeh,who has ruled his coutry for 22 years.
Adama’s biography,life,education and struggle for his country is an inspiration to aspiring politician.The newest president in the West African country was born on 16 February 1965 in Mankamang Kunda, a small Jimara village near Basse,Gambia. He attended Koba Kunda Primary School and then Crab Island Secondary School in Banjul where he excelled. He received a scholarship for Muslim High School.
After graduating from Muslim High School,he was employed by Alhagie Musa & Sons as a security officer but later rose through the ranks to become the sales manager.After a long stint at the company,he took a break to go abroad for further studies.In early 2000 he was in UK studying a degree in real estate and doubling as a security guard to finance his studies.
Years later, Barrow returned to his native country,Gambia,where he starting his real estate company,Majum Real Estate.The president elect has been the Chief Executive of the company until the year 2016 when he was chosen by a coalition of seven opposition parties to contest the 2016 Gambian presidential election.
Barrow, who is a now a hero in Gambia, ensured his name was at the ballot,against one of the longest serving presidents in Africa,Yahya Jemmeh.Election results showed that he beat the incumbent by a huge margin-he is now the president. Congratulations
