In 2013 the people of Nyamira confused former LSK Chairman Okongo O Mogeni to Kennedy Mogare and ended up electing the latter their Senator. It is now 2017 and the Senator still believes that Kenyans could mistake Uhuru to Mongare and vote for him overwhelmingly. Mongare, who is not known beyond Kisii, has declared he would contest for president in 2017.
Mongare says his desire to succeed President Kenyatta is due to the fact that Kenyans have been given a raw deal by previous regimes. He adds that he has what it takes to take the country to Canaan, where no president has ever promised.
His announcement comes as a surprise to the Gusii community who are CORDED and Kenyans in general who vote along tribal lines.
Until his election to the Senate in 2013, Mong’are worked as a partner at the Mokua Nyambati Mongare & Associates Advocates. Prior to this, he worked as a part time law lecturer at Graffins College.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Vishwavidalaya, Indore India (Faculty of Law).
The seat is now a crowded field after Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi of the Amani National Congress (ANC), Ekuru Aukot of Third Way Kenya, and former Director of Public Prosecutions, Philip Murgor also declared their candidature.
