Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, has completely crashed the cartels at the Education sector. The ever serious CS is now on the neck of lazy lecturers and their students. Sources within the Education Ministry inform us that the CS is planning to introduce joint exam for all universities in the country…and here is how it goes.
The universities will be required to have same opening and closing dates. In between, there will be serious teaching and revision for exams. A body will be unveiled to set and supervise exams at all public universities.
The new regulation, which is open for debate, will strictly allow universities with similar courses offer examination set from University Joint Examination Board. For instance,if the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University,Moi University and JKUAT offer Actuarial Science, it means the students who are pursuing the course in both universities will sit for a similar paper at the same time and supervised by external examiners.
After the students have sat for the examination, their lecturers will be denied opportunity to mark the papers, instead the papers will be marked by external examiners.
The whole idea is meant to streamline our education system and ensure discipline is maintained all the way from primary to university level. It also means lecturers will stop lazing around and start working.
