We can confirm that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is moving to court to request for opening of his accounts, which were frozen following an order from the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Joho, who is currently embroiled in political battles with President Kenyatta, has instructed his lawyers to move to court to force the reverse of the order by the taxman. The lawyers will move to court any time from now.
KRA had written to Stanbic Bank, Diamond Trust Bank and other banks where Joho has over 7 accounts to freeze the politician’s accounts so investigations could be conducted to determine whether he has been evading tax. In the 10 days the accounts are frozen, no transactions will take place.
Joho argues that freezing of his accounts is a way of undermining him after he differed sharply with Uhuru over Coast politics.He adds that by closing his accounts, his family business will be greatly affected, leading to huge losses. In the event that court rules that freezing of Joho’s accounts was illegal, the politicians will be awarded millions of money.
