How to get a Permanent Job While Working as an Intern

The main hurdle that almost all the interns world over face is “how can I get a permanent job when am still an intern”. While this question is commons and regularly asked, a number of interns have successfully secured internships after employing this strategy.

Develop good relationship with your boss

The first step towards securing a job as an intern is to ensure your boss has a soft on you. To do this, you have to please him by demonstrating exemplary performance.

Stand out

Standing out means your work must be next to perfect, if not perfect. During internship, you might find yourself among several interns. While others are just there to pass time, your case should be different-complete your assigned duties in time, check in early, never exit the gate ahead of your boss and also help where others won’t.

If your boss realizes your work stands out, good news is all you would get at the end of your internship.

Avoid office politics

Office politics is poisonous and can completely crumble your career. Office gossiping should be the least thing to do as an intern-please avoid as much as possible.

Take up challenging roles

Sometimes you might find your boss is unable to perform a certain task. If you realize you can help, seize the opportunity and help to logical conclusion. If you manage to solve technical challenges in more than one occasion there is no way your boss will release you-you will be employed.

  Respect everyone in the office

Interns have a peculiar habit. Fresh from college, they believe they know more than everyone in their new office. What I can advise you, do you see that security officer? Do you see that secretary? Do you see that messenger? Do you see that tea girl? Respect them. What you might not be aware is that amongst those you underrate, there are some related to your boss and would act as the main source of information that can finish you. As an intern, respect everyone in the organization.

Never badmouth your boss even when you feel safe to talk

Even if you are talking amongst fellow interns, never make a mistake of bad mouth your boss no matter how bully he is.

Make official job application

When working as an intern, don’t assume that since you are in good terms with your boss a job is guaranteed. Towards the end of your internship, hold a meeting with your boss and inform him of the need to join them as a full time employee. Alternatively, write a professional CV and cover letter and then make official job application.
