Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati became the first Actuary to be a governor in Kenya.
Wycliffe is one of Kenya’s pioneer actuaries, who secured the position of Governor for Bungoma County, marking a successful shift from professionalism to politics.
The governor elect, a career actuary with deep understanding in pension management and investment consultancy, received 197, 651 votes against the incumbent, Jubilee’s Kenneth Makelo Lusaka, who garnered 176, 034 votes.
Mr Wangamati, who sits on the board of Alexander Forbes East Africa’s businesses, vied for the gubernatorial seat through Ford Kenya ticket. Bungoma County, in the western region of Kenya, is a major food basket, concentrating largely on sugarcane and maize.
Other Actuaries who excelled in 2017 elections include,Babu Owino,who was elected Embakasi East MP and Johnson Sakaja,who is the incoming Nairobi Senator.
