America has told Raila to forget about presidency, arguing that Kenya is not a country worth dying for.
The USA through its acting secretary of state for African affairs Donald Yamamoto delivered the message to Raila, weeks after the former Prime Minister visited the country. The message reads in parts:
“This country is not worth your blood, this country is not worth dying for.
Let it go…”
In the statement,Yamamoto also advised President Uhuru and his rival,Raila to embrace dialogue, adding that it’s the only way to unite the country. He praised Raila for his long history of reforms and democracy.
“We have known the former prime minister over the years . He has a great story- the need for political reform. He stands as a model for reform;he is famous and respected for reforms,” Yamamoto said
Though USA has openly sided with the government,Raila still maintains he would be sworn in.During the funeral of Francis Nyenze, the opposition leader said:
‘…tulisema sisi tulishinda na sisi tutaapishwa…tumeambiwa ati ooh treason treason, ati hiyo ni kifo. Mimi nataka kujibu Githu Muigai hapa na boss yake, ikiwa kama kifo ndiyo lazima itafanyika ndiyo tusiwe na wizi wa kura tena, tutaapishwa tukufe…’
‘…if death is the price that we must pay so that Kenyans get electoral justice, so that there is no rigging in future we are ready to pay that price. We will be sworn in, wafanye vile wanataka kufanya….’
