Many people around the world suffer from some kind of sleep disturbance, whether that is insomnia, nightmares, sleep apnea or others. The sleep apnea is a disorder that happens while you sleep and it disrupts your breathing.
Those who have sleep apnea and are not treating it, might actually stop breathing repeatedly while sleeping. That means the brain and the body are not getting enough of the oxygen they need.
There are 2 types of sleep apnea:
-OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) is caused by blocking the airway when the back of the throat’s soft tissue collapsing during sleep.
– CSA (central sleep apnea) is a type of apnea where the airway isn’t blocked, but the brain doesn’t signal the muscles to breathe because of the instability caused in the respiratory control center in the brain.
The apnea can affect any person, regardless of age and sex. The risk factors involving are having a family history of sleep apnea, a large neck size, being over the age of 40, being overweight, nasal obstructions due to sinus problems, deviated septum or allergies, having a gastroesophageal reflux and others.
