Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter’s election has been nullified.
The Eldoret High court made the ruling today morning after it established that several electoral malpractices were committed.
In his ruling, Justice George Kimondo indicated that the evidence provided in court proved that irregularities were committed in the August 8 election.
Bernard Kitur ,who was Keter’s main opponent in the 2017 elections, sought court to invalidate the election citing violence, intimidation of voters and agents during campaigns and on the election day and that the firebrand politician also bribed voters.
The petitioner further indicated that Keter conducted campaigns on 6th and 7th of August which was contrary to the Elections Act.
After the nullification,IEBC will be required to conduct elections afresh.Keter will also be slapped with the costs associated with the suit, which are in excess of Ksh3 million.
