The SGR has announced it will start charging parking fees for vehicles accessing the company’s stations.A MEMO circulated to the public reads:
“Kenya Railways wishes to inform the general public that effective March 7,2018 all vehicles accessing SGR stations shall be required to pay parking fees as follows:
Saloon Car-Ksh 100
Pick-Up trucks-Ksh100
Mini buses, Nissans-Ksh150
Buses-Ksh200
Lorries-Ksh200
The company has already implemented the changes.
The decision to charge arose after it emerged that some Kenyans, who are not necessarily SGR passengers, were fond of parking their vehicles at the stations and they proceed to work. Since the place is secure and free, the idea saved them the Ksh300 parking fees charged by the Nairobi City County.
