Over 100 million people across the world have a problem of snoring. It’s so worrying that they often looks for ways of stopping the habit. If you’re one of them, the solution is simple.
A year ago, one man took to Facebook to reveal what led to his divorce. He explained that her wife couldn’t persevere anymore after staying in the marriage for two years. The reason being, snoring.
As a normal human being you couldn’t wish to sleep with a person snore until the dogs start barking outside the house. A sound sleep requires peace and quietness.
If you have problems with snoring, here are the most appropriate ways to stop the habit.
- Change your sleeping position
The worst sleeping positions is when you sleep facing up but if you must face up, make sure you use a pillow.
“A body pillow (a full-length pillow that supports your entire body) provides an easy fix,” Slaughter says. “It enables you to maintain sleeping on your side and can make a dramatic difference.”
Doctors recommend that you always sleep facing the right side, or away from the wall.
- Lose weight
Obesity and too much weight contribute immensely to snoring problems. The moment you start reducing the amount of fat in your body, snoring will completely disappear.
- Avoid/Reduce Alcohol
Very rare to find an alcoholic man sleeping without snoring. “Drinking alcohol four to five hours before sleeping makes snoring worse,” Chokroverty says. “People who don’t normally snore will snore after drinking alcohol.”
- Change your pillow and blanket
One reason you are snoring is because your pillow or blanket has a lot of dust. Dust blocks your nasal passages, thus making snoring possible.
- Allow enough ventilation
Lack of enough ventilation in the room may contribute to snoring. The worst thing about this is that you can develop asthma.
It’s recommended that you open one window if at all ventilation spaces aren’t enough.
- Stay hydrated
Always take water and more liquid to make your body hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids. “Secretions in your nose and soft palate become stickier when you’re dehydrated,” Slaughter says. “This can create more snoring.” According to the Institute of Medicine, healthy women should have about 11 cups of total water (from all drinks and food) a day; men require about 16 cups.
- Have enough sleeping space
There are cases where more than 2 people sleep in one bed. Due to congestion, one is unable to get enough sleeping space and air. Due to discomfort, snoring emerges.
- Treat common cold
Common cold is another condition that can contribute to snoring. The disease results to blockage of nasal passages, thus snoring. If you have common cold, see a doctor.
There are two common cold home remedies: Honey and Ginger. Take plenty of this and the problem will end.
