It’s surprising that the Kuria community and the Kisii speak the same language with a slight difference in pronunciation. The origin of these tribes is Congo; they migrated to Kenya a few centuries ago.The kisii moved to Kabianga where they settled for a while before permanently settling in Kisii and Nyamira Counties. The Kuria migrated and settled in Kuria , Isibania and migori and regions neighbouring luo and Luhya communities.
If two people are speaking in Kuria and a Kisii is around, he would be able to understand each word in the conversation. The most amazing thing is that the two tribes can communicate with ease just like the Kalenjin sub tribes.
Interestingly, Kuria and Kisii have almost similar traditions and customs, the only thing separating them is distance. Even the appearance, no one would tell the difference. However, nowadays they have been assimilated by the Luo community and speak Dholuo better than Kuria, which sometimes confuse whether an individual is a Kuria or Luo.
Now,if you see a Kisii, know that his closest tribe is Kuria.
