President Uhuru Kenyatta directive abolishing mandatory free housing for junior officers caught many landlords completely unawares. The landlords are powerful wheeler-dealers who have been making a tidy sum leasing police housing to the National Police Service (NPS). The 70,000 junior officers will now seek alternative accommodation as tenant by the end of this month.

Deputy President William Ruto
He owns the O’sere flats managed by Legend Management. NPS pays kes16 million per year to the DP. Matiny Ltd is owned by the Ruto’s with the DP’s daughter Charlene Chelagat Ruto hold 14.3 shares while his wife Rael Chebet Kimetto has the remainder of 85.7 shares. The units under Matiny are 98 and fetch a cool kes20.3 million per year for the second family.
Easton Apartments on Jogoo road also belong to the DP. He collects an annual rent of Sh26.4 million per year for the 100 units.
Nakuru County Jubilee Party chairman Zakayo Waweru
Leased 80 units in Nakuru Pine Wood Apartments in Langalanga Estate at a cost of kesSh25 million annually.
Other include:
Nominated MP Maina Kamanda-24 units at a cost of kes4.3 million annually.
Maara constituency MP Kareke Mbiuki-12 units at kes Sh2.5 million annually
