House helps and maid, who are commonly known as house manager, earn the least salary among employees of all ranks. As of 2019 the average salary of a maid in Kenya stood at Ksh 3,500. However, the Kenyan government has come up with a policy that no house help will go home with less than Ksh 13,200 per month.
Yesterday the government resolved that the minimum salary of a maid in Kenya should be in excess of Ksh 13,200 but if one decides to pay more, well and good. Previously, even up to now, below were the average pay per house help in every town:

The leading town is Nairobi and it’s by virtue of being the capital city. Another reason is that some of the estates pay as high as Ksh 40,000 per month. For instance, a house help employed at Runda earns Ksh 15,000 to Ksh 40,000 and in most cases they are degree holders. Those in informal settlements like Kibera, Kayole and Embakasi earn as little as Ksh 3,500 per month.
But with the new order from the government, the average pay for a house help is expected to rise to Ksh 13,200.
