The worst time in Kenya is when you are a youth, there are numerous challenges you face especially when it comes to earning and spending of money. There are mistakes you should avoid as much as possible when you want to grow financially.
Some of us turned 20 years recently and due to our aggressiveness we managed to save wisely, spend wisely and think big,we are now at a position to advise other youths on what to do and how to do it.
- Avoid the temptation of having many girlfriends
The more girlfriends you have the more you spend. If possible, have one friend who is not extravagant.
At ages 20 to 30 there is a temptation to have more than one girlfriend when you have a source of income. There is nothing wrong in having a girlfriend but the worst mistake is to spend more than half of your resources on girls.
- Playing save, not daring to take risks
The most successful people are those who take serious risks like quitting a job to start business. Without taking risks, you’ll just be an average person.
Some of us were once employed but we saw potential in blogging and took the risk of quitting our jobs, we now earn 30 times our previous salaries. But blogging came with serious risks like facing the law and getting broke occasionally. But over time we have learned how to survive.
- Being extravagant
Assuming you earn Ksh 100,000 per month, how much do you save? I know and it’s a fact that most youths save less than 20% of their income. Most of them fear to live below their means because they want to compete with their peers. One thing they should know, you came on earth alone, when you suffer you suffer alone and the life you are making is yours. No matter what people say about you,if they don’t feed you, they don’t marry you or fund you, they are useless in your life. Live below your means, save and invest.
- Too many academic papers
In Kenya there is something strange about the youth, they want to study everything and every time. Having academic papers is not a bad thing, but don’t overdo. It’s not uncommon to find a youth possessing a degree, two masters, CPA, ACCA, CFA, CISA and CIFA. No employer will employ this person because he will be too demanding. Another thing, this person has lost focus in life,he only focuses on education, nothing else.
After your college education, look for a job, get money and start business, after all at the end of the day what we need is money.
- Gambling all your money
Gambling is not a bad thing but being addicted is the worst. As a youth try to moderate yourself, spend less, enjoy the game and don’t play to be rich, play to pass time. Some of us have been gambling for decades but we have never been addicted, we moderate ourselves.
