It’s now possible to reverse MPESA transaction in case you have sent money to the wrong number. There are 2 steps involved.
Step 1
The moment you realize you have sent money to the wrong number, take the message you received from Safaricom MPESA, copy it, create a blank message and paste the message.
Step 2
Send the message to 456
Safaricom will take 24 to 48 hours to reverse your money.
There are several things you need to do before you reverse the transaction. The first thing is to make sure that you reverse immediately you discover that you have sent the money to the wrong person, otherwise the recipient may rush to MPESA and withdraw immediately.
The second thing to do is to call the recipient and ask them to send back the money, if they are reasonable they will send the money.
When you send the reversal message, it will take a day or two for the amount to reflect in your MPESA account.
