Vice Chancellors are among the highest paid public servants in the country,they are in job group E4 which pays Ksh 292,765 to Ksh 576,120 per month.
The Vice Chancellors are grouped based on a university one is leading, for instance the University of Nairobi, which is the oldest university, has the highest paid Vice Chancellor who is at job group E5. The Chancellor pockets over Ksh 800,000 per month. There are also chancellors who are posted to upcoming universities, these are in job group E3 which pays Ksh 250,000 to Ksh 400,000 per month.
Apart from the salary quoted above, the Vice Chancellors are also entitled to House Allowance, fuel allowance and several other benefits. On average a Vice Chancellor in Kenya earns Ksh550,000 per month.
