We have finally received a response from Sportpesa over the issue of their paybill number which the government ordered to be closed. The betting company has stated that its paybill will not be closed in the meantime. In a short statement, Sportpesa responded:
“Worry less as we are still in operation. SportPesa is a law-abiding corporate citizen that upholds all tax and regulatory requirements. We assure our customers that their accounts remain safe.

A source from the company intimated that even with the order from the government, Safaricom won’t comply because nearly a quarter of their revenue comes from the betting industry. Yesterday,few hours after the government wrote to Safaricom to close 27 paybill numbers of betting companies, the telecom company responded by arguing that the move will negatively impact on its businesses. It further argued that more than 12 million of its subscribers use the paybill numbers to send and withdraw money from betting sites.
Sportpesa has finally assured its customers that the paybill numbers won’t be affected.It has encouraged them to place bets as usual until the cases in court are determined.
