Sportpesa,1XBET and Betin have moved to court to request for reinstatement of their paybill numbers.The three companies hired top lawyers,Paul Muite and Prof Githu Muigai to argue their case.
The companies have defended themselves, saying they met all the conditions as per the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) but the body acted in bad faith by ordering Safaricom to close their paybill numbers. They also argued that thousands of jobs will be lost if the stalemate continues to persist.
The three betting firms requested Justice John Mativo to lift orders by Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) that cancelled their betting licences.
At total of 27 betting companies’ paybill numbers were closed on 10 July 2019, but days later,10 of the 27 companies were cleared by KRA.The companies whose licenses were renewed are: Betway, Mozolt Bet, Odi bet, Eastleigh bet, Lucky to you, Ken book makers, Bet boss, Kick off, Easi bet and Palms bet.
