News reaching us indicates that giant betting company Sportpesa will be back before the end of January 2020.The company opened its offices last week, some workers have been recalled resume duties while others have been hired. One of the workers in the company intimated to us that already new staff members have been hired and more than a quarter of the old staff recalled.

The company also ordered new technology as they plan to make a major announcement. It’s understood that BCLB had failed to renew Sportpesa’s license but pressure from top government officials and entrepreneurs prevailed upon the board to renew the license. Sportpesa was notified late last week that its license could be renewed.

We understand that the exit of the company led to massive layoffs which was experienced across several sectors. The economy almost collapsed. Its impact was even felt by Safaricom and other telecom companies. The government had no choice but to allow Sportpesa to continue operating in the country.

Since last year July, football has been in the dead bed as most teams struggle to finance their activities. Sportpesa single handedly sponsored the premier league, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. It’s was about time for the Kenya Premier League to be disbanded.

The only bad thing about the coming of Sportpesa is that it will charge the 20% tax which is contested in court. It’s believed that the government is interested in the tax so as to succeed in its big four agenda.
