3 Major Sporting Events to Bet On This Year

197

Every few years, sports fans get a major event to follow that go beyond the usual national and continental leagues. Two years ago, we’ve had the FIFA World Cup and the Winter Olympics. This year, we once again have our calendar filled with exciting major events to follow on TV or through the Betway online sports betting website. So, prepare your betting slips because we’re in for a wonderful year for sports fans.

The “usual suspects”

There are major sporting events that take place every year – 2020 will be no different. We’ll have the chance to follow the matches and finals of all the major leagues of the world, from Australia to Alaska.

Tennis fans will have a chance to follow all their favourite athletes at the four Grand Slams, rugby lovers will be rooting for the Springboks – or the All Blacks – once again in this year’s edition of the Rugby Championship, and fans of sports ranging from golf to cycling will have their share of smaller and bigger tournaments to keep an eye on (and a betting slip open for).

But there will be major events, too, that will make this year a special one for sports fans.

UEFA Euro 2020

The fans of European football are in for a treat this year: it is once again time for the UEFA European Championship, always held two years after the World Cup.

This year’s event will be hosted by several nations as opposed to just one to mark the 60th anniversary of the event. Thus, the matches will take place all over Europe, from Amsterdam to Sankt Petersburg. The championship final will be held in London, at the Wembley Stadium, the second-largest stadium in Europe, on July 12, 2020, just in time for the…

2020 Summer Olympic Games

This year is Olympics year again! Athletes from all over the world – from 206 nations, to be exact – will gather in Tokyo, Japan, between July 24 and August 9 to measure their skill and worth in 33 sports (50 disciplines).

This year’s Olympics will be special because of the three new sports added to the roster: skateboarding, sport climbing (the indoor version of rock climbing) and surfing.

2020 Tokyo Paralympics

The Paralympics is not as grandiose and popular as its “proper” counterpart… but it should be because it’s all about inclusion and the overcoming of one’s limitations. For those of you who don’t know, the Paralympics is the version of the Olympics reserved for athletes with disabilities. It is traditionally held soon after the Summer Olympics in the same host city.

This year’s event is expected to have 4,400 athletes from all over the world competing in 20 sports between August 24 and September 9 at the Tokyo New National Stadium. This year’s games also have new sports added to the roster: taekwondo and badminton.
