Kameme FM is owned by Kenyatta family. The station is under Mediamax Network Ltd.Kameme was founded in 2008 but was bought by President Uhuru Kenyatta prior to 2013 elections to campaign for him in Mount Kenya region.
Kameme broadcasts in Kikuyu language and it has an audience of more than 3 million people. Apart from Kameme radio, Mediamax Network Ltd also owns K24 and Kameme TV.
Some of the presenters of Kameme radio include, Gatonye Wa Mbugua, Benson Gathungu, Man Nyari, Kamau Wa Kamlesh, Ngoni Thuita and Gathaiya Dennis. The station is ranked the second most popular radio station in Central Kenya after Inooro Radio.
The sad news is that Kameme may be forced to close down after it emerged that its parent company, Mediamax Network Ltd is facing financial challenges. Aready, K24 has been merged with Standard Media Group, something that resulted to the sacking of several workers.
It’s believed that Kenyatta family sold some stake of Mediamax Network Ltd to DP William Ruto.By the time the company was being sold, it was heavily relying on adverts from betting companies. When Interior CS closed down major betting companies like Sportpesa, Kamame was one of the most affected companies.
