Kalonzo Musyoka has reiterated that he will only work with Raila if and only if Raila supports him in 2022.Even so,Raila has already set his eyes on 2022,he won’t leave the contest to anyone.The big question is, what if Kalonzo refuses to back Raila?In case Kalonzo goes alone, his candidature will force a run off and that will make him the determinant of the 2022 winner.
Kalonzo has three options:
1.To support Raila
2.To support Ruto
3.To go it alone
From the look of things, he is not joining Azimio,he has decided to go it alone and force a run off…but a call from President Uhuru Kenyatta might change his mind. What is clear is that Kalonzo knows that Raila and Ruto have already decided that their Deputies will come from Mount Kenya region. If that is the case, he will only join either of the coalitions as a junior member.
At the moment, Kalonzo is the most sought after politician in Kenya. If he joins William Ruto, he will increase Ruto’s chances of winning presidency. In case he joins hands with Raila he will make him president. No matter how Raila pretends that he doesn’t want Kalonzo,the fact is, he needs Kalonzo more than Kalonzo needs him.Currently,he is using three Ukambani Governors,but I doubt they will deliver more than half of Ukambani votes.
Raila has already picked Peter Kenneth as his running mate,he hopes to get half of Mount Kenya votes. On the other side,Ruto has decided his Deputy will come from the mountain. That leaves Kalonzo with the option of going alone.In the event that there is a run off,Kalonzo may be forced to support Ruto in order to teach Raila a lesson.But Uhuru factor might save Raila from the embarrassment because he will convince Kalonzo to back Raila.
