IEBC has announced that they will remove 1.18 million votes from their register before publishing the final number of registered voters.IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati said that those to be removed are dead or ghost voters who voted in previous elections but they aren’t available this time around.
Chebukati further clarified that the final register will be published end of this month, June 2022 for every Kenyan to get access to it.
Earlier, DP Ruto complained that 1 million voters from his strongholds have been removed from the register. He was reliably informed by an insider at IEBC that they come from Mount Kenya and Rift Valley. Those removed were ghost voters, who voted for Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017.
IEBC is seriously auditing its register to remove those who have died and other ghost voters. The total number of registered voters might drop from 22 million to 20 million when the final register is made public. In case the 1.18 million votes are removed from the register, it will be a blow to DP William Ruto because most of them come from his strongholds.
It has also emerged that ICT CS Mucheru and Dr Matiangi have vowed to protect Raila Odinga’s votes. This time around, they believe if elections are free and fair, the former Prime Minister will be president.
