Epra has decided to announce new prices of fuel at night, when nearly all Kenyans were asleep to avoid bashing. The government institution released the prices past 11pm.According to the new prices, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by Kshs.3.40 per litre, Kshs.6.40 per litre and Kshs.15.19 per litre respectively.

Here is the statement from the government institution;

“Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by Kshs.3.40 per litre, Kshs.6.40 per litre and Kshs.15.19 per litre respectively.

In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will now retail at Kshs.182.70, Kshs.168.40 and Kshs.161.13 effective midnight for the next 30 days.

The prices are inclusive of the 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020”

This comes after the government announced last month that they have imported fuel in shillings to prevent the prices from going up.Until today, Kenyans are yet to see the cheap fuel.

Ever since President Ruto was elected,the prices have been increasing significantly despite promising Kenyans that he will lower the prices immediately he assumes power.
