Bata Shoe Company to be closed after workers told not to report to work in Monday

Bata Shoe Company situated in Limuru is set to be closed for sometime after workers were told not to report on Monday. The company informed all workers that their jobs are safe but they need to go on leave for the facility to be renovated.

The Bata Corporation is a multinational footwear, apparel and fashion accessories manufacturer and retailer of Moravian origin, headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. The corporation is one of the world’s leading shoemakers by volume with 150 million pairs of shoes sold annually.

It has a retail presence of over 5,300 shops in more than 70 countries across five continents and 21 production facilities in 18 countries.

Bata stores entered Kenya in 1932 and established shops in Nairobi and Mombasa.

The present factory in Limuru, Kiambu County was opened in 1942.

Thousands upon thousands have worked in the giant company that is the largest shoes, bags and other leather products manufacturer distributor and retailer in the East and Central Africa region.

Currently, Bata shops stock items imported from China,Dubai and USA because importing is cheaper than production locally.
