Aviator: What Early Access Means

14

The Aviators game is getting more and more popular by the day. Initially released in 2017 by 501 Industries and developed by Eclipse Studios, this title had every chance to become a hit in the Steam gaming community.

However, reality fell short of expectations, and as of 2025, Aviator remains in an early access mode.

The Idea Behind Aviator

Eclipse Studios wanted to combine several popular types of games in one. Specifically, the intention was to make a fast-paced battle game like Brawl Stars while also filling it with two-level threats and moments requiring active strategic thinking.

The Aviators game can be divided into three different stages.

Before the Battle

Since Aviators is a multiplayer game, you need to find members of your team first. If there aren’t any friends you could bring, you’ll just have to wait for other online players to join you.

Another step is choosing how your character will look. The game allows you to customize the following features:

  • The color of your Aviator
  • The hat this character will wear
  • The eye color
  • The body

These customization options help players distinguish their characters from one another. Once both teams are shaped, the game begins.

The Battle

Each round of the battle lasts for several minutes. Sometimes, you might get overtime in case both teams show the same results.

Your team has to score points by landing hits and avoiding any collisions with your opponents, as well as with various elements of nature.

These could be animals going for sudden attacks, the heavy rain, or lightning.

After the Battle

Once the round ends, your team should discuss how it went and what you could have done differently.

This helps you analyze your strengths and weaknesses and refine your strategy for future matches.

The Aviator Early Access Mode

Aviators is available in an early access mode. It means that this version of the game is still raw and imperfect.

You can play it as much as you want, but it might have bugs and other unpleasant surprises.

Initially, early access was granted to beta players who didn’t mind trying the game out and reporting any issues they detected.

Eclipse Studios hoped that this way, it would fix all the errors while getting their Aviators game popular. Here is a list of the things it had planned:

  • The introduction of new arenas after getting enough feedback
  • A replay system to let players re-watch their match
  • Create a more sophisticated social system
  • Set more precise ranking systems in place
  • Consider the possibility os a single-player Aviators

These plans didn’t come to fruition, though. The game didn’t get a sufficient number of players, so it remained in the same beta mode for years.

If you try it and like it, you can contribute your own reports for Eclipse Studios’ consideration.

More people started paying attention to Aviators now, so the chances of revival and completion are better than they were a year ago.
