The University of Nairobi appoints Eng.Prof Ayub Njoroge as the new Vice Chancellor

The University of Nairobi Council, following consultations in a special sitting held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, has announced key leadership appointments ushering in a new era for the institution.

Prof. Ayub N. Gitau has been appointed the 9th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi.

Prof. Josiah Omollo Aduda has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance, Planning & Development

The Council has also appreciated Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson for her dedicated service as Acting Vice-Chancellor during the transition period. Both appointments take effect from May 14, 2026

EDUCATIONAL RECORD

2001–2004: PhD Studies: University of Nairobi; Obtained PhD degree (2005) in Agricultural Engineering (SoilMechanical Behaviour, Tillage Modeling and Tool Design Thematic Area).

1992 – 1994: MSc. Studies: University of Nairobi; Obtained MSc. Degree (1996) in Agricultural Engineering (Power,Machinery and Mechanization Engineering Thematic Area).

1987 – 1990: BSc. Studies at Egerton University; Obtained an Upper Second Class Honours degree in AgriculturalEngineering (1990).
