This is Hasan Joho in 1993, he had scored D- in his KCSE at Serani Secondary School in Mombasa. Life was hard for him then. He came from a poor family and could not pay school fees easily. To stay in school, he made a deal with his principal. He would leave class early each day to do small jobs and earn money. He sold clothes and did other work to take care of himself. For him, just finishing high school was a big win. He was not thinking about high grades. He was thinking about survival and believed more school chances would come later. He also did his KCPE at Tom Mboya Primary School back in 1988.

Years later, he went back to school. He started with short courses to improve his grades. He got a certificate and a diploma from Kampala University. Those papers helped him join university. He later earned two degrees from Kampala University and Gretsa University. He did not stop there. He went on to study for a Master’s degree at the Harvard Kennedy School. His story shows that a low grade is not the end. With hard work and time, you can still grow and reach big goals.
