Why Rosemary Chemutai was buried at night

4

The late Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Head of Data Protection, Rosemary Chemutai Koech, who passed away tragically on August 21, 2026, was buried on the night of Friday, August 28, 2026, at her parents’ home in Chepseon village, Kericho County.

Her burial, which was at the center of an intense legal dispute between her husband, Kevin Migwe Kimwatu, and her maternal family, was conducted at around 7:30 PM on Friday night in the presence of a heavy police force at the homestead.

On Friday morning, August 28, Milimani Commercial Magistrate Agnes Mwangi issued an order halting the funeral and blocking Lee Funeral Home from releasing the body. This followed a lawsuit by her husband, who claimed he was excluded from arrangements despite being legally married.

Learning of the injunction, the family moved with speed to bypass the legal restrictions.

Because the body was already interred, the planned gathering today at the homestead was converted primarily into a service for tributes, speeches, and condolences
