The body of 32-year-old Mercy Maina Wachinga was found in advanced decomposition inside her rented Lavington apartment, nearly a month after her death.
Neighbours and building staff raised alarms about a foul smell, prompting police to force open the door at the For Homes complex. Officers discovered her face down on her bed and recovered a note, leading them to treat the case as a suspected suicide, although the note reportedly did not specify her reasons.
Her mother, Grace Nderitu, said the family last communicated with Mercy in early August and detected no signs of distress. Family members mentioned she preferred to be cremated or have her body thrown in a river, as she loved rivers more than traditional burial.
