In mid-June 2022, four friends, Fred Obare, Moses Nyachae, and Elijah Omeka, all vanished from Thika Road within the same hour. Simultaneously, a local politician and suspected associate, Joseph Ng’endo Njau, also went missing.
Between June 19, and June 20, 2022, their brutally mutilated bodies were discovered dumped in Kijabe Forest (Kiambu) and Magadi (Kajiado).
When Joseph Ng’endo Njau’s badly tortured body was brought to the City Mortuary, his associates were terrified, and his family hesitated to claim it. His associate, and a friend, Kevin Otieno, stepped up as the only person daring enough to go to the morgue to process and identify Njau’s remains.
According to investigative reports, Kevin openly went to the City Mortuary to view the remains. While there, he loudly vowed to organize a massive send-off and finance the burial using his fleet of matatus. This single act is what triggered the hitmen and put Kevin directly on the squad’s radar, and realized he was part of the surviving network.
Almost immediately after that mortuary visit, Kevin began receiving anonymous phone calls warning him to back off and stay silent. Unmoved and defiant, Kevin ignored those warnings.
Three months later, the squad returned to Nairobi to clear the rest of the circle. On September 22, 2022, at around 10:30 PM, David Ochieng Odera, 34, and his unnamed friend are ambushed and shot dead along Mirema Drive, in Kasarani, Nairobi. Witnesses noted that the two had arrived around 10:30 PM in a white Toyota Belta when the squad intercepted and killed them.
Early the following morning, on September 23, 2022, at around 3:00 AM, the squad abducted Kevin’s brother, Alfred Odhiambo, from Mwiki. After being forcefully handcuffed and abducted from his Mwiki home at around 3:00 AM, he was held in captivity for several days.
At around Midday, of September 23, 2022, the armed hit squad raided Everlyn Nduku’s house, ransacked it, and bundled her into one of their unmarked vehicles. Investigative reports suggest that during her captivity, the squad interrogated her to extract information on Kevin’s exact whereabouts and assets.
At around 3:00 PM, while keeping Nduku captive inside one of their vehicles, the squad tracked Kevin Otieno down to Gesora Road in Mihango, Utawala. The Gunmen arrived in broad daylight driving a white Toyota Land Cruiser and a grey double-cabin Toyota Hilux pickup. Kevin Otieno was cornered while making a phone call next to a building under construction. The hit squad opened fire, pumping over 27 to 36 bullets directly into him as terrorized members of the public watched.
After killing Otieno, the gunmen aggressively demanded that nearby witnesses hand over their phones, which they then shot to destroy any recorded evidence.
Having successfully completed their primary objective, the squad chose not to execute Nduku, and drove to Tassia estate in Nairobi later that day, where they dropped her off alive but deeply traumatised.
Within roughly 90 days, the entire network was completely dismantled by the squad. According to investigations reports, out of the 10 closely linked associates tracked by that specific phantom unit, only Alfred Odhiambo and Evelyn Nduku survived. The other eight individuals, including the “Kasarani Four” (Frank Obegi, Fred Obare, Moses Nyachae, Elijah Omeka), politician Joseph Ng’endo Njau, David Ochieng Odera, his unnamed friend, and Kevin Otieno himself, were all killed.
Nearly a week later, around September 29, 2022, Alfred was found dumped alive on a roadside in Thika. According to family reports, he returned home deeply traumatized, physically battered, and entirely silent about the ordeal and the identity of his captors. Out of ten individuals linked to that specific circle of friends targeted by the squad (including the “Kasarani Four”), Alfred was one of only two people who made it out alive.
Allegations of an international cryptocurrency and bank fraud syndicate are what primarily led to the 8 men being profiled, tracked, and systematically executed by the rogue squad.
Intelligence leaks, investigations, and local crime analysts painted a picture of an underground syndicate that crossed the line with high-profile victims. The 8 men were allegedly part of a sophisticated digital fraud ring. The syndicate specialized in hacking into foreign bank accounts, draining funds, and instantly laundering the money by buying Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to erase the paper trail.
The members lived exceptionally high-end lifestyles that did not match any traditional employment, hanging out at popular joints along the Thika Superhighway like Roysambu and Mirema. Their loud online presence, combined with sudden wealth, driving high-end vehicles, made it incredibly easy for intelligence and tactical units to monitor, track, and profile the entire social circle.
