A female patient at Tokyo Hospital caused a major scene when she accidentally farted, causing fire that almost brought down the entire building.

The 30-year-old was about to undergo cervical surgery when nature dictated that she release some air. Since she was a patient, she set herself free and within no minutes the room was filled with her air. A laser which was about to be used for surgery caught fire and Tokyo Medical University Hospital was in panic mode as doctors and nurses struggled to put off the fire.

The fire that started like a joke burnt her body as doctors scampered for safety. By the time rescue operation was launched, the patient had already 40 % burnt-most of her organs, which include body, waist and hands had already been burnt beyond 60 %.

A report released by the hospital management stated:

“When the patient’s intestinal gas leaked into the space of the operation (room), it ignited with the irradiation of the laser, and the burning spread, eventually reaching the surgical drape and causing the fire,” the report stated.

The incident happened on April 15 this years which forced the management to warn patients against farting where there are inflammable materials.
