Why It’s Hard To Get a Job in Kenya With a Degree Course from a Ugandan University

1601

It’s a fact that if you possess a degree course from middle level colleges and Universities in Uganda, chances of securing employment in Kenya are slim. There are many reasons why this is the case.

Initially, securing a job in Kenya was not a big struggle until several private universities emerges, thanks to former President Mwai Kibaki. These universities opened opportunities for Kenyans to join as private sponsored students. Consequently, several graduates were churned into the job market. The number of graduates have now overwhelmed the job market, forcing even the A students to be jobless.

We know Makerere University is one of the most popular universities in Africa, but that does not erase the fact that Ugandan graduates are not marketable in Kenya. The reason why Kenyan employers don’t employ graduates from Uganda is because universities in Uganda admit even D plain students. These people are not allowed to pursue degrees in Kenya because it’s believed they are slow in absorbing content.

Due to the fact that graduates from Kenyan universities are too many for the economy, it’s hard for those from Uganda to find a footing in our country. But one thing that puts a wall between these graduates (Uganda) and employment is the attitude of our employers towards them. The employers for a long time know it’s only Makerere University which can challenge Kenyan universities, any other university from Uganda has no space in Kenya.

If you walk in the streets of Nairobi and in frustration squares, you won’t miss thousands of graduates from Uganda lamenting and enduring scorching sun as they drop CVs from one company to another. But despite their efforts, employers reject them…majority are pushed into villages to practice farming.

Now,if you are a Kenyan student it’s always advisable to pursue your diploma from a reputable institution in Kenya and later join a local university for a degree course. It’s pointless to seek a shortcut in Uganda when you know very well your high school grade would embarrass you later during job search.
