Diseases You can Get from a Salon or Kinyozi

It is interesting to know that the places we go to relax and get beauty services can turn to dangerous places for picking life threatening diseases. We go to salons and barbershops to get our hairs, manicure and pedicure done. Hygiene matters a lot when it comes to salons and barbershops because if not taken care of people end up contracting unpleasant conditions.

Here are some of the diseases you can pick from the salon or ‘kinyozi’;

  1. Dandruffs

This is very common in both salons and barbershops; characterised by whitish substances chipping off the scalp and causes a lot of itching. It is transmitted through sharing of hair combs and shaving instruments with people already affected. You will get it in salons which do not have enough materials to use and don’t sterilize the instruments before using them on other clients

  1. Head Lice

These are small annoying pests which cause one to scratch the scalp. It is spread when hairs of people carrying lice comes in contact with others. People think that lice like to affect dirty hair but that is not the case, whether you are clean or not you could get lice from the hairs you are exposed to in the salons.

  1. Hepatitis

One can get hepatitis B and C from the salon particularly as a result of pedicures. When those abrasive tools are not sterilised well they could infect the clients with blood borne infections which could be transmitted to others. The barbershops could also spread this disease through the razors and scissors if not sterilised well.

  1. Sexually Transmitted Diseases

This is possible in salons because of waxing. Waxing is the removal of private hairs by applying some chemicals using a spatula.it is known for causing rushes and burns but dipping the same spatula in the wax container (double dipping) and the same wax is used on another client; that could spread STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Haircuts in ‘kinyozi’ could result in HIV-AIDs spread in case a razor used to shave an infected client is used on another person before thorough sterilizing.

  1. Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis can be picked from the salon if a chemical which you are allergic to reaches you through a towel used to wipe the client or contaminated water. The chemicals could cause rashes and other skin allergies and other irritations.

  1. Fungal infections

Fungal infections of the nail can be got through the nail grooming instruments which are not sterilised. If you notice swelling of the skin surrounding the toenail or fingernail, pain in the area, or a thickening of the nail, seek medical attention. In the barbershops fungal infections is picked through sharing of shaving instruments. You will notice circular white patches in the head or gradual loss or greying of hair
