There are several reasons why you should not keep dreadlocks.Well, dreadlocks also known as locs or dreads is a hairstyle whereby hair is twisted, matted or ripped, backcombed or rolled to form rope like strands. Every hair style is good or bad depending on the preference of the wearer. Below we have sampled some of the reasons which some people, who didn’t like the locs, have given after their short-lived experience wearing the dread style.

Hygiene

Dreadlocks need not be washed frequently like the normal hairs. If a person is exposed to a dusty environment, lint, fur and other dirt could get into the scalp and make your scalp very itchy or infected. Woe unto you if you are rained on and the hair doesn’t dry well, the ‘wet dog ‘smell and misty aroma may scare people from coming close to you. Mildew and mold may also grow in it if you go sleep when the locs are a bit wet.so unless you are on top of things when it comes to hygiene, dreadlocks are not for you.

Migraines

Due to the pulling and twisting of the hair at different angles when making the locs, someone may experience throbbing headaches that may even force one to take painkillers during the first experience. Pain also comes as a result of the extra weight and puling about after washing stage.

Uncomfortable

Wearing dreadlocks can be bit uncomfortable when sleeping. The ropes like strands are not just comfortable like the normal hair on a pillow and that is why some people resort to braiding the locs again and wrapping the head with a cloth, which restricts air and even blood circulation in the head as well.

May cause baldness

As the hair grows and the dreads gets heavier, the tightness makes the locs break off from the hair roots resulting in hair loss with time. Undoing the dreadlocks is tedious too and the whole experience is quite uncomfortable so people may resort to just shaving the whole head bald at once.

Time consuming

A lot of time is wasted when doing or even bathing locs. It takes more than two precious hours to wash and dry them so one has to forego any business just to do locs. You also have to invest for a long time in order to have your dreadlocks grow long.

Unwarranted attention

The hairstyle is somehow unique and many people associate it with celebrity kind of hairstyle thus makes one attract unsolicited attention. Famous musicians, footballers, actors/actresses and other celebrities are known for their unique kind of hairstyles one of them being dreadlocks. For the ordinary persons of all walks of life, it may take quite some time to convince people that wearing dreadlocks is just like any other hairstyle. However the hairstyle is becoming more socially acceptable nowadays.

Spiritual association

Some people associate dreadlocks to some cultural or spiritual connections. Whereas some people wear it as form of fashion, some use it to signify religion, culture or to express some statement which most people find out of the ordinary. These different connotations may isolate you from other people or even make you clash with authorities.

Influences negative thinking

This is weird but actually some people have developed negative feelings after putting on dreadlocks. Dreadlock wearers appear not to have peace of mind and calmness like the rest of people. It is like the locs corrupt the brain and causes some spiritual distress! Word has it that people who wear locs have 5% chance of developing negative feelings like, lack of motivation to work, robotic behaviour, low self-esteem and feeling like committing suicide. Well the truth about this is not known whether the hairstyle has some psychological side effects.
